DescriptionGroup of twelve Chinese export porcelain plates hand-painted in underglaze cobalt blue showing a Chinese landscape; the plates are a type of Chinese export porcelain known as Nankingware. The landscape consists of a landscape with a tree and Chinese structure to the right, surrounded by a river. There is a bridge in the foreground and mountains, trees, and Chinese structures in the distance. A small figure walks across the bridge, and birds are flying through the sky on many of the plates. The landscape is surrounded by a series of concentric borders. The first is a field of white, followed by a blue border consisting of a band of blue with darker lines creating a diamond pattern inside. At three points, this border is interrupted by an area of white containing a wavy line and various figures and geometric patterns (perhaps inspired by the Eight Taoist Immortals and their symbols). This border is surrounded by another thin blue line, followed by a border consisting of dots arranged in straight lines perpendicular to the borders. Finally, at the edge of the rim, is a blue border consisting of a band of blue with darker lines creating a diamond pattern inside.
