DescriptionCherry stand in the Federal, or early neoclassical, style. The stand has a rectangular top with canted corners, a baluster-shaped pedestal over a cylindrical base, and three arched legs and feet. The baluster-shaped pedestal consists of a cylindrical top with two recessed bands, over a more deeply recessed band, over the baluster with a ring near the top, over a recessed band with a flared top edge, over the cylindrical base. The stand has an overall red finish.

Condition: The top has an uneven finish, and a large dark circle on the top surface. The lower legs and feet are lightly scratched and worn.

Design and Construction Details: The top is made from a single board that is screwed to a rectangular cleat from below. The underside of the top has a wide area of shallow canting at the edges. The pedestal is screwed into the cleat. Each leg is dovetailed to the base of the pedestal. A round, iron plate with a hole in the center is screwed to the underside of the pedestal where the legs join the base.
