DescriptionA large town is surrounded by open grassy fields. Most buildings appear to be houses, but there are at least three churches, one with a tall steeple. Smoke issues from the smokestacks of two factories. Another industrial building at the far left appears to be a mill. Locomotives with trains of cars are on three different rail lines in the background. Low, tree-covered hills are in the distance. In the foreground, three cows are in a field. A cluster of buildings, possibly a farmhouse and its outbuildings, is in a line of trees beyond. Three small figures are on a dirt road leading into the distance on the right. Clouds are in the sky.
NotesDate Note: Print is similar in technique to those produced by E.C. Kellogg between 1852 and 1854 and appears to be more advanced and therefore probably slightly later. It probably dates to shortly after the reorganization of the firm as E.B. & E.C. Kellogg in 1855-1856. (Finlay 1/19/2006)
