DescriptionPieced quilt in a Ring Around the Rosie pattern variation. The quilt consists of a hand-stitched pieced top of printed plain-woven cotton, or calico, thin batting, and a plain-woven cotton backing; the three players are joined with a hand-stitched quilting pattern that follows the shape of the pieces that make up each block. The pieced top is made of a variety of calicos in dense floral and geometric prints in red, brown, blue, and green. Each block consists of eight truncated diamond-shaped pieces inside a pieced circle of brown vines printed on white cotton; each circle is inside a pink square. Each block is separated by calico sashing with purple stylized flowers and a black vine printed on white cotton. This same fabric is used for the backing. Each edge is finished with straight grain fabric binding.

Condition: The top is yellowed and has light brown stains.
NotesHistorical Note: According to museum records, all of the fabrics used in this quilt were scraps of clothing from Mr. and Mrs. Staplins and three of their children.

Object Note: Pattern; the pieced pattern on the quilt top is a Ring around the Rosie pattern variation. This is pattern number 3589 in Barbara Brackman's Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns.
