DescriptionThe academic buildings of Yale College are on the left: a long range of four-story buildings with three tall towers, one of them resembling the steeple of a church. Small trees grow in the foreground. A broad grassy lawn or yard is surrounded by a picket fence. Elm trees line a rutted dirt road that recedes into the distance in the center. A man, woman, and boy stand beneath the first elm on the left, apparently speaking to a man on horseback in the road. The State House, on the right, is in the form of a Greek temple on a high basement, with six Doric columns across the facade. Its lawn is also surrounded by a low fence. The steeple of a church is visible immediately to the right. A standing woman and a seated man are beneath a large tree in the right foreground.
