DescriptionPine folding chair in the Gothic revival style. Each side of the chair consists of five evenly spaced vertical ribs; the ribs are held together by a horizontal support at each end. The upper third of each side of the chair is curved slightly, while the ribs that form the lower two thirds of the sides are straight. The seat is located about one third of the way down the chair, just below where the curve begins. The seat consists of ten ribs that are all joined with a pin through the center of the chair. Each side of the folding chair crosses about two thirds of the way down the chair.

Condition: There is light wear on the lower sides of the ribs and both horizontal supports on each side. Four of the caps from the ends of the wooden pins are missing.

Design and Construction Details: The five vertical ribs that form each side are tenoned to a horizontal support at each end; the center and each end rib is tenoned and pinned to the horizontal support. The seat is constructed of ten horizontal ribs; five alternating ribs are joined to each side with a wooden pin that extends completely through the five seat ribs and five side ribs. The ten seat ribs are joined in the center with a wooden pin completely through the center. Two thirds down the chair, where the sides cross, the side ribs are joined with a wooden pin through the ten side ribs. The side and seat ribs pivot on the wooden pins when the folding chair is closed. The wooden pins are cylindrical, with a small cap at each end (four are missing).
