DescriptionPhotographs and possibly oil paintings are displayed in the interior of a large room. Most are portraits. Some are framed and hang on the wall at the left. Some are on the floor and on a mantle at the left. A bas-relief is on an easel. Several large floral arrangements are in large pots. A top hat hangs on a coat rack and is reflected in a round mirror. What appears to be gas lamp hangs from the ceiling. Patterned carpets, probably oriental rugs, are on the floor. A wicker chair is in the foreground. An upholstered sofa is beside an open door. Stenciling on the glass in the door reads: "The / STUART / Studio." A second part of the room is behind an elaborate room divider incorporating turned woodwork and spindles. Fringed curtains hang from a rod in the opening. There appears to be a counter at the left of the room in back. Cabinet cards and other small format photographs are on display. A large camera is in the background. A sign on the wall reads: "DRESSING ROOM."
NotesDate Note: In the Hartford City Directory, Stuart is only listed at 269 & 271 Main Street in 1892. However, he appears at 271 Main Street throughout most of the 1890s. (Finlay 3/5/2004)
