DescriptionA young woman is seated at the end of a sofa. She wears a dress with balloon sleeves, a gathered bodice, a ruff, and a belt. She has a bow in her hair and cross-laced shoes on her feet, which rest on a cushion. An infant is sleeping on the right side of the sofa, with his head on the woman's lap. The infant is wearing a nightshirt and cap, both trimmed with lace. A large blanket is draped over the right side of the couch; a large plaid pillow is on the left side. A small boy sits on the footstool at the woman's feet. He wears a suit with a lace collar and holds a drum in his left hand and a drumstick in his right hand. A toy horse lies on its side on the floor at the far right. A book and a basket or vase are on a small round table at the far left. Fringed drapery is in the left background. A picture in a gilt frame hangs on the wall in the right background.
