DescriptionThree-quarter-length portrait of a woman. She wears a dress and an overgarment with three-quarter-length sleeves. The cuffs and lowcut neckline are trimmed with lace, and the overgarment is tied at the neck with a ribbon bow. The woman's hair is tied back, with beads or small flowers in it. She stands outdoors in a landscape. With her right hand, she plucks a blossom from a flowering tree at the left. Additional trees are in the right background.
NotesSource Note: The original 1756 painting by John Wollaston that served as the visual source for this print is in Lee Chapel and Museum at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia. The Kelloggs would have known the composition through an engraving. (Finlay 3/29/2004)
