DescriptionA young girl sits in a large, upholstered, wooden armchair with her feet on a small wooden footstool. She wears a dress with three-quarter-length sleeves over an undergarment or blouse. Her right hand, in which she holds a quill pen, rests on her head, and her elbow rests on a table covered with a tablecloth. Three books and numerous papers are on the table. A large book and a large portfolio are on the floor beside her. Additional books and a globe are in a bookcase in the right background. In the left background, a flowering vine, probably a climbing rose, and a distant mountain can be seen thourgh an open window. Drapery is pulled back to the right of the window.
Object number1989.34.4
NotesOwner Note: Print 1989.34.1 was given to a student by his teacher, M. Spencer. Print 1989.34.4 was given to a student by her teacher, Mary Spencer. Both prints date to 1857-1867. It is possible that M. Spencer is Mary Spencer, and that she gave more than one Kellogg lithograph to more than one student. (Hudson 3/20/2004)On View
