DescriptionThree-quarter-length portait of a young boy standing beside a stone wall. He wears a long tunic with buttons at the neck. The neckline, closure, and sleeves are edged with scalloped piping or stitching. A sash is tied around his neck. His right elbow rests on the wall. In his left hand he holds a flint-lock rifle by the barrel. A dead pigeon lies on the wall at the far right. The head of a dog, possibly a wolfhound, is visible at the lower left.
