DescriptionComplex of industrial buildings includes several factories with smoke issuing from smokestacks. A ventilator and several chimneys are on the roofs. Signs read: "L.B. Hanks & Co." "Hartford / Iron Foundry." A man loads or unloads a horse-drawn wagon near a gate. A man holding a whip and a woman holding a parasol are in a horse-drawn carriage. A dog runs beside them. Two boys, one rolling a hoop, are at the far left. A picket fence is at the right. Pennants fly from the masts of sailing vessels that are out of sight on the Connecticut River in the background.
