DescriptionFull-length portrait of a woman standing on a dirt road. She wears a short dress with long sleeves and a laced bodice, and pantaloons or bloomers. A broad-brimmed straw hat decorated with roses and a ribbon is tied with a ribbon bow beneath her chin. She holds a closed parasol in her gloved hands. Shoes with patent leather toe caps are on her feet. Bushes are at the left, and a small tree is at the far right. A grassy field is in the background. In the left background, a picket fence lines the road. Behind it, at the far left, is a small house in the Gothic revival style with decorated vergeboards, windows with leaded glass and pointed arches, and a dormer window. In the distance, barely discernible on the horizon, are the steeples and spires of a city.
