DescriptionA young boy kneels on the bare back of a horse. The child wears a shirt, vest, and pants. He is barefoot. He holds the horse's mane with his right hand and reaches up with his left hand to touch a plum hanging from a small tree. A basket rests on the horse's withers. A woman stands by the horse's head with her hand on its nose. She wears a dress, apron, shawl, and shoes. A small barefoot girl, similarly dressed, stands beside her. Plants and weeds grow beside a board fence in the right background. The plum tree is on the opposite side of the fence. Two additional horses and a foal are in a grassy field in the left background. The roof and upper story of a house are visible above trees in the distance.
