DescriptionA small child, probably a boy, is seated astride a large dog, probably a Newfoundland or a Saint Bernard. The child wears a striped dress with a wide neckline and puff sleeves, a broad-brimmed hat with five plumes, shoes, and socks. In his right hand, he holds a sword. In his left hand, he holds reins attached to the dog's collar. The dog stands in an open grassy field. A deciduous tree and a small evergreen tree are in the right background. A second small evergreen tree is in the left background. A lake or pond is in the distance.
