DescriptionA man sits or leans on a stone balustrade. He wears a cap with a plume, a doublet, a ruff, a short cape, and hose. His ankles are crossed, and his right hand is raised. A woman stands in front of him with her left hand raised. She wears a dress, a shawl, a veil, and possibly a girdle. Her jewelry includes a necklace and earrings. A dog, probably a greyhound, stands beside her, looking up at her. The dog wears a collar around its neck. Fringed drapery is at the right. Trees are in the background. The clouds in the sky are tinged with pink, suggesting that it is sunset.
Object number2000.20.2
NotesSource Note: The source is probably a troubadour style painting of the 1810s or 1820s, possibly by Bonington or Francia. (Finlay 4/6/2004)
Technique Note: This is probably an example of the most expensive coloring option offered by the Kellogg firm. Not only is varnish applied to some areas, but the overall coloring is especially detailed, subtle, and elaborate. (Finlay 4/6/2004)On View
