DescriptionA small girl and a large shaggy dog stand on a beach by the side of the sea. The girl wears a blouse that is slipping off her shoulder, a skirt, black stockings, and shoes. The dog is sniffing at a broad-brimmed hat and cloak or jacket at the water's edge. A broken spar and a piece of rope lie nearby. Birds, probably gulls, fly above the cliffs in the background. Smoke rises from the chimney of a cottage in the right background. Rocks, grass, and a small plant are in the right foreground.
