DescriptionThe heads of three horses are facing left as they drink water from a stone water trough. The horse on the far left has his mouth in the water. The two horses on the right have raised their heads, and water drips from their mouths in a thin stream. Water flows into the trough through a circular inlet at the left. A vine, possibly ivy, grows on the left. A branch with leaves is in the right foreground.

NotesSource Note: The visual source is probably a painting by John Frederick Herring II (1815-1907). Although the specific source has not yet been identified, the composition is strikingly similar to that of The Frugal Meal, an 1847 painting by Herring now in the Tate Gallery in London.
