DescriptionCannonballs and artillery shells are falling on a city. Men, women, and a few children are in a large square in the foreground. Some lie dead or wounded on the ground. Three men at the far left carry a fourth man. A man in the center carries a boy. A pile of rubble is in the right foreground. A woman with a veil and a number of men wearing broad-brimmed hats are nearby. A man in a top hat rushes towards the left. Ranks of soldiers march towards the background where shells are exploding, followed by three men on horseback. A horse-drawn cart and another man on horseback race off into the distance. Additional soldiers advance down another street at the right. Some buildings have balconies or towers. Most show damage from cannon fire. A flag flies from one tower, and several other towers have crosses on them. Smoke billows into the sky in the distance.
