DescriptionThree officers on horseback are in an open area with mountains in the background and a steep, rocky hill at the left. One officer holds a sword. Another points to the left. Ranks of men in military uniform advance from the right and climb the hill towards a fort with crenelated battlements. A Mexican flag flies from the roof. A cloud of smoke issues from its cannons. Dead and wounded men lie on the ground in the foreground. Tents are on a hill in the background. The wheels of a caisson or cart are at the far right.
