Two men and a woman stand behind his chair. A second woman kneels beside him and holds his left hand. The men wear military uniforms. One of the men has a mustache and covers his eyes with his right hand. The standing woman wears a dress with a lace collar and has a ribbon bow in her hair. She holds and cup and saucer. The kneeling woman wears a dress with a ruff and a shawl decorated with fringe. A foot stool is at the far right. A portrait bust of Napoleon I, a cocked hat, a large sheet of paper, and a cloak or blanket are on a table at the left. Drapery is in the left background. A framed portrait of Napoleon I is on the wall in the right background. A patterned carpet is on the floor.
