DescriptionA man stands between two women. He wears a coat, vest, shirt, necktie, and trousers, and holds a goblet in his right hand. The woman at the left wears a dress in medieval style, with a wide neckline, bell sleeves, and a sash or girdle. She holds her hands folded, as if in prayer. The woman on the right wears a dress in the classical style. She has a bracelet on her upper arm, flowers in her hair, and sandals on her feet. She holds the man's arm in her right hand and holds a goblet, presumably full of wine, in her left hand. A large snake or serpent is in an urn nearby. A stream flows over a small waterfall in the background. Trees are in the distance. Roses grow on a branch in the left foreground. Thistles grow on a branch in the right foreground. The image is surrounded by an architectural border with columns at the left and right and putti holding a wreath at lower center. Banners reading "TEMPERANCE BANNER." and "LOVE PURITY & FIDELITY." are at top and bottom.
