DescriptionTwo men stand facing each other in the interior of a room. They wear coats, vests, neckties, trousers, and shoes. Both wear sashes with rosettes on them. One sash also has a device of crossed mallets on it. One man has a beard. The other has sideburns. His hand rests on a book, probably a Bible, which is on a table covered with a tablecloth. An armchair is at the left. A window with drapery is in the left background. The base of a column is visible behind additional drapery at the right. This drapery is trimmed with fringe. A framed painting of a landscape with a waterfall and patterned wallpaper are on the wall. Patterned carpet is on the floor.
