DescriptionA large central image with three vignettes above and three below are grouped within a decorative frame. The central image shows a man wearing a loincloth and a crown of thorns nailed to a cross. Other men use ropes and a ladder to raise the cross on a high barren hill. A man wearing a helmet and a Roman military uniform stands at the right, holding a flag. Another man, wearing a cloak, is seated nearby. A woman and a crowd of people are in the middle distance. A walled city is in the background with hills or mountains beyond. The vignettes show three men, one of them holding a sceptre, and one of them kneeling before a woman holding a child; a woman kneeling in prayer and an angel appearing in a cloud; two men, one with a shepherd's crook, one kneeling before a baby in a manger with a man, woman and cow in a stable at the left; a woman kneeling before a man holding a shovel; a walled city with a domed church and a palm tree at the right; a man with a halo appearing among clouds.
