DescriptionThree-quarter-length frontal portrait of a man wearing a heavy woolen coat and a stocking cap with a tassel. His left hand rests on a thick wooden beam serving as a counter or a table. In his right hand, he holds a fork with a sausage on the end of it. His face is contorted in a grimace, possibly intended as a smile. One of his upper teeth is missing. A brazier full of coals rests on the beam. A second sausage is balanced on a pair of tongs which lie across the top of the brazier. A thick wedge of bread, or possibly cheese, lies on the beam at the left. Drapery is in the right background.
