DescriptionA wicker bassinette or cradle floats in flood waters. A young child lies asleep in the bassinette. He wears a nightgown and lies on a mattress with his head resting on a pillow. The bedclothes are tangled beneath him, with an end trailing in the water. The bassinette has a wooden footboard; a sheet is draped over the arched top. A large black and white dog is swimming towards the bassinette from the right foreground. Only the dog's head is visible. In the right background is a house with two dormer windows, a chimney, half-timbering in the gable, and possibly a thatched roof. The flood waters reach to the second story windows. A wooden post and a small tree are in the right foreground. Additional trees and a second house are in the left background.
