DescriptionSeveral men on horseback are surrounded by a large crowd of women and girls. The men wear military uniforms. The women and girls wear wreaths of flowers in their hair. George Washington is in the center, raising his hat. Several women hold baskets of roses which they are strewing at his horse's feet. A woman at the far left holds roses in her apron. A few men stand in the background. A canopy or marquee decorated with American flags and garlands of flowers is overhead. Banners read: "THE HERO WHO DEFENDED THE MOTHERS, DECEM. 26 1776.
