DescriptionTwo warships are engaged in combat in the middle of a choppy sea. Pennants and two American flags fly from masts of the frigate Constitution on the left. Smoke and flame issues from cannons protruding from her cannon ports. Men climb in the rigging. The bowsprit of the Guerriere, on the right, extends over the decks of the Constitution. The Guerriere has lost all three masts, and sails and rigging are in the process of falling on the deck. A British flag is partially visible behind one of the sails.
