DescriptionA man wearing a military uniform sits astride a horse on a grassy cliff overlooking the ocean. His uniform consists of a hat, an overcoat, breeches, and boots. A medal is pinned to his vest. He holds a telescope in his right hand and the reins in his left hand. A medallion with a large "N" on it is attached to his saddle. A second man on horseback is at the right, partially concealed by the slope of the hill. He wears a military uniform and a hat with a plume. A large palm tree grows at the right near some broad-leafed plants. Additional palm trees are in the left background. Two large ships are in the water below. Smaller sailing vessels are nearby. A large town is at the water's edge in the right background. Steps lead up to a high promentory with what appears to be a fortress flying a flag. A conical mountain is in the center background.
