DescriptionFour people are seated in a theater box. The auditorium is visible in the background, through lace curtains which screen the box. A man and a woman at the far right are seated on a settee. The man wears a military uniform, and the woman wears a bonnet. To the left, a second woman, seated in a straight chair, raises both hands, apparently in alarm, as she turns to look at the bearded man beside her, who is seated in a rocking chair. At the far left, a third man stands holding a revolver in his outstretched right hand. Smoke and flame issue from the barrel. He holds a dagger in his left hand. A door is in the left background. Patterned carpet is on the floor. Patterned wallpaper is on the wall. An empty chair is beside the wall to the right of the door.
