DescriptionA women, seen in profile facing right, is seated in a straight chair, in an interior. She wears a cap or bonnet and a dress with a wide collar. She holds a book or fan in her lap. A marble fireplace with a grate is at the far left. A bouquet of flowers, including tulips and roses, is in a vase on the mantle. A mirror in a large gilt frame hangs above the mantle. A landscape painting in a gilt frame hangs on the wall in the center. Trees, a church steeple, and a domed building, probably the Pearl Street Church and the Old State House in Hartford, are visible through the open window at the right. Vines grow on the window frame. Patterned carpet was on the floor.
