DescriptionA women, seen in profile facing right, is seated in a straight chair, in an interior. She wears a cap or bonnet and a dress with a wide collar. She holds a book or fan in her lap. A marble fireplace with a grate is at the far left. A bouquet of flowers, including tulips and roses, is in a vase on the mantle. A mirror in a large gilt frame hangs above the mantle. A landscape painting in a gilt frame hangs on the wall in the center. Trees, a church steeple, and a domed building, probably the Pearl Street Church and the Old State House in Hartford, are visible through the open window at the right. Vines grow on the window frame.
