DescriptionFull length studio portrait of a young woman, possibly Lucy Compton Street. According to the inscription below the image, the subject is "Bound for Cornwall." She is looking off camera to the right. The woman is wearing a dark skirt and matching basque jacket. The skirt has deep horizontal pleats and a ruffle at the bottom. The jacket has buttons at the cuffs, on the lapels, and on either side of a strip of cloth that holds the jacket closed near the collar. The young woman has a hat on her head, is wearing a crucifix, and has a parasol tucked under her right arm. There is an architectural structure on the photographer's backdrop in the background.
The tintype is housed in a paper envelope. The front paper is light pink and has a red decorative border around the outer edge and a solid red double-line border around the image opening. The back paper is light purple.

Lucy Compton Street attended Vassar College and graduated in 1883. She married Wells Wadsworth Cheney in 1887 and gave birth to their only child, George Wells Cheney, in 1888.
