DescriptionView of Louis Richmond Cheney and his second wife, Margaret Bennett Crain Cheney, sitting in the living room or parlor of their home on Woodland Street in Hartford, Connecticut. The room has damask wallpaper and there is a large ornamental rug on the floor. Louis is sitting on the end of a long ottoman, in front of a marble fireplace that has a blazing fire in it. He is leaning to the left, with one elbow resting on his knee and holding a pipe in his hand. Margaret is sitting on a couch to the right of the fireplace, resting one arm on the armrest.

There is a candlestick table situated between Louis and Margaret, and another to the left of Louis. There are small tables on either side of the fireplace, each holding a lamp, a photograph, and a small vase. There is a framed painting on the wall above each of those tables.

There is a small photograph of an unidentified man displayed in the middle of the mantelpiece. There are two crystal candlesticks or vases, one on each side of the picture. There are also two decorated metal cups, one on each side of the mantelpiece to the outside of the vases, and two globe lamps, one on each end. There is a large oval mirror in a frame, with taper candles, centered above the mantel.
NotesDate note: Estimate based on life dates and approximate age of subjects in photograph. Louis and Margaret were married in 1933 and Margaret died in 1940. Cataloging worksheet in object file gives date is circa 1940.

Cataloging worksheet in object file states: "Margaret was Louis' second wife, they were married in 1933 and lived on Woodland Street in Hartford. Louis was the mayor of Hartford 1912-1914 and a member of the Governor's Foot Guard."
