DescriptionFull length portrait of Louis Richmond Cheney. He is standing in profile, facing to the right. Louis is wearing what might be the Governor's Foot Guard Undress Uniform. It consists of a jacket that has pins on the collar and a badge on the shoulder, pants that have a thick stripe on the outside of the leg, and a flat-topped cap with a short brim. Louis is holding a cigar in his right hand, which is held down at his side. He has a moustache and goatee.
Photograph is mounted on a thick piece of cardstock, which has beveled edges. The cardstock is dark gray on the recto and light gray on the verso.
NotesDate note: Estimate based on life dates and approximate age of subject in photograph. According to an obituary published in the Hartford Courant on December 18, 1944, Louis served in the Governor's Foot Guard from 1898 to 1903 and again from 1907 to 1909. Cataloging worksheet in object file gives date as circa 1890. Photograph is mounted on a thick piece of cardstock, which has beveled edges. The cardstock is dark gray on the recto and light gray on the verso.
