DescriptionThree-quarter length studio portrait of Colonel Louis Richmond Cheney. He is seated in profile, facing to the left. Louis is wearing a full Governor's Foot Guard uniform, which includes epaulets, a sash, medals, white gloves, and pants that have buttons near the outer seam. His arms are resting on the arms of the chair. He is holding the hilt of a sword, which is pointing down, in his left hand. Louis has a moustache and goatee. His hair is a mix of dark and gray.

NotesDate note: Estimate based on life dates and approximate age of subject in photograph. According to an obituary published in the Hartford Courant on December 18, 1944, Louis served in the Governor's Foot Guard from 1898 to 1903 and again from 1907 to 1909. Cataloging worksheet in object file gives date as circa 1904.
