DescriptionHalf length studio portrait of John "Dave" Davenport Cheney as a young man. He is looking off camera to the right. John is wearing a white shirt and tie under a checked vest and matching jacket. There is a handkerchief in the front breast pocket and a watch chain hooked into the lowest button of his vest. John's hair is slicked down and he has a thin moustache.
The cabinet card has gilt, beveled edges.

John Davenport was the son of Frank Woodbridge Cheney and Mary Bushnell. He had eleven siblings. One of them was his twin, Howell Cheney.
