DescriptionHand-colored lithograph advertising the Phoenix Insurance Company of Hartford. At the top, there is a scene depicting city buildings on fire and people in the streets reacting in various ways. A phoenix bird is shown at the top of the text "PHOENIX INSURANCE CO." Directly below that is a vignette titled "A VIEW ON MAIN STREET, IN HARTFORD, CONN." The Old State House is on the right and the Phoenix Insurance Company is on the left.

The vignette on the bottom left is labeled "NOT INSURED," and shows a family (mother, father, three children, and a dog) outside the ruins of their home. On the far left, there is a shield containing information about the company: "CAPITAL $600,000. / PARENT OFFICE, / HARTFORD, CONN. / HENRY KELLOGG, / PRESIDENT. / A.W. JILLSON, / VICE PRESIDENT. / D.W.C. SKILTON, / SECRETARY. / GEO. H. BURDICK, / ASST. SECRETARY."

The vignette on the bottom right is labeled "INSURED," and shows a well-dressed family (mother, father, and one child) standing outside a stately mansion on a river. On the far right, there is a shield containing further information about the company: "ASSETS $1,600,000. / WESTERN DEPARTMENT, / CINCINNATI, O. / H.M. MAGILL, / MANAGER. / PACIFIC DEPARTMENT, / SAN FRANCISCO, CAL. / R.H. MAGILL, / MANAGER."

At the bottom center, there is a vignette showing a horse-drawn fire truck.
NotesDate note: The date range is based on the years Henry Kellogg, Asa Jillson, and DeWit Skilton held the positions listed on the lithograph.
