DescriptionHalf length studio portrait of Ward Cheney wearing his army iniform. He is looking off camera to the right. The collar of the jacket has batallion pins and pins that say "U.S.". Ward is wearing a white shirt with a standing collar under the jacket. There is a wide-brimmed hat on his head.
NotesDate note: Ward Cheney enlisted in the army in April of 1898 and went with his regiment to train at Camp Alger in Virginia. He departed for the Philippines in January of 1899 and died while overseas. This photograph was probably taken in the second half of 1898. Cataloging worksheet in object file gives date as circa 1899. Cataloging worksheet in object file states that Ward was shot in the leg twice while serving in the Army in the Philippines and died of shock.
