DescriptionHalf length studio portrait of Mary Caroline Ogden Pierson Cheney and her eldest child, Horace Bushnell Cheney, Jr. Mary is standing on the right, wearing a dress that has black and white horizontal stripes on the sleeves and black and white ruffles across the bodice. There is a piece of decorative lace just above the ruffles. The dress has a high collar and there is a brooch pinned at the nape of Mary's neck. Her hair is pulled back in an updo. Her right arm is around the back of a small chair and her left arm is resting in her lap. Horace, Jr. is sitting in the chair. He is wearing a white dress and booties. The dress has decorative lace trimming on the skirt and sleeves and floral appliqués on the shoulders. There is a narrow pin secured on the bodice a few inches below Horace's chin.
