DescriptionView of Harriet Kingsbury Richmond Cheney as an elderly woman. She is sitting in front of a three-paneled room divider. She is angled to the left and is looking down at what appears to be a newspaper, which she is holding in front of her. Harriet is wearing a black dress with gigot sleeves and a high collar. There is a pair of spectacles on a chain, pined to her chest. Her hair is styled in a knot on the top of her hair. Harriet's hair is gray and her skin is wrinkled. There is a ring on her left hand.
NotesDate note: Estimate based on life dates, approximate age of subject in photograph, and date of death of the subject's spouse. George Wells Cheney died in 1893 and Harriet's dark dress might indicate mourning. Cataloging worksheet in object file gives date as circa 1899. According to cataloging worksheet in object file, Harriet and George were married in 1850.
