DescriptionFull length studio portrait of George Wells Cheney, Sr. as a young boy. He is sitting on the edge of a small table with his feet resting on a chair. George is flipping through a large book that is resting on the table. The table is covered by a decorative cloth that is trimmed with large tassels. A decorative plate is displayed in a stand on a shelf under the table. George is wearing a buttoned jacket over a dress or skirt. He is wearing stockings and boots and there is a kerchief under his chin. His hair is styled in long ringlets and some of it is coiled in a small bun on top of his head.
The edges of the cabinet card are gilt.
NotesDate note: Estimate based on note on back of cabinet card that indicates that George is depicted at 5 1/2 years old. He was born in August of 1888, which means that the photograph was probably taken in late 1893 or early 1894. The edges of the cabinet card are gilt.
George Wells Cheney, Sr. was the only child of Wells Wadsworth Cheney and Lucy Compton Street.
