DescriptionThree-quarter length portrait of Eliza Dixon Marsh and her young son William Dixon Marsh attributed to Luther Terry. Eliza Marsh is wearing a black dress with lace trim and a mantilla, with a shawl draped over her shoulders. Her hair is pulled back, with a tendril on either side of her face. A classical urn holding a flowering vine is depicted in the uppper left quadrant of the painting, and drapery fills the background in the upper right. Young William is at his mother's knee, his right arm on her leg and her right hand resting on his right shoulder. His blond hair is parted at the side. He is wearing a pale peach-colored dress trimmed at the sleeves and neck with ruffles.
