DescriptionFramed painting from the Masonic Temple on Ann Street in Hartford. The surreal painting depicts an architectural setting of columns, temple steps, and a marble floor in a checkerboard pattern leading to an altar with the letter "G" enshrined under a canopy of fabric. At the top center of the painting is the all-seeing eye; to the left is the sun and to the right is the moon and seven stars. Other masonic symbols include the rough and perfect ashlars, pot of incense, Noah's ark, Jacob's ladder, the 47th problem of Euclid (Pythagorean Theorem, represented by the three rectanges and triange), the point within a circle, the trowel, the handshake, the naked heart and sword, and others.
