Label TextCentral Connecticut State University Alumni A.V. Perkins and Marian Andoh-Clarke are passionate about their love for hip hop music. Finding no quiz-style party games on the subject, the friends decided to create their own. University of Dope was launched in 2019. This "disrespectful party game for hip hop lovers" uses opinion-based Q & A rather than trivia so that even casual listeners can participate, and features artists from all of the genre's 50-plus-year history.

The black-owned, women-led business continues to grow. University of Dope, which is warehoused in Hartford, was picked up for national distribution by Target in 2023 and is now available through other major retailers like Walmart and Amazon. Perkins and Andoh-Clarke have also produced R&B expansion packs and run live game show events to engage fans further.
