DescriptionPencil drawing by Nicolino Calyo of the Charter Oak. It is in the center of the paper, and the hollow in its trunk is visible. What is probably the Connecticut River is in the background, with two sailboats on it, as well as suggestions of houses and trees. There is a more distinct wooden fence which runs from the left corner of the drawing, where there is a gate, back into the drawing behind the Charter Oak. At the base of the oak on the left side stands a small man, his outstretched arm on the trunk. Another man is in the right foreground of the drawing, reading a notice which is attached to a smaller tree which is not definitely drawn.
NotesDate note: In the cataloging worksheet in the object file, under "History," a note says, "Old accession card (2325) states "Done for the Charter Oak Life Insurance Company about 1853-54." This undoubtedly was copied from the old CHS records of April 7, 1914 ... "...these and the sketch (the object described above) "formerly belonged to the Charter Oak Life Insurance Co.;..." Where came the date????"
