NotesSubject Note: The Lowell Folk Festival first began as the National Folk Festival managed by the National Council on the Traditional Arts (NCTA), and it has run nearly continuously (breaking only due to the COVID-19 Pandemic in 2020 and 2021). Now guided by the local Lowell Foundation with artistic, logistical, and production support provided by NCTA, the festival is held throughout the city's former mill district in the Lowell National Historical Park. The festival features five stages of international performers of the highest quality, traditional artists demonstrating crafts from communities across New England, foodways presentations, and food vendors representing Lowell's ethnic diversity. The largest free folk festival in New England brings thousands of people to the city during the last weekend in July.
