DescriptionOval-shaped, japanned tin hatplate of the 7th Company 12th Regiment Connecticut Militia. The hatplate has small, 1/16-inch-diameter holes piercing the plate along the outer edge at the ends. The holes are in pairs, two on each side, with each hole in each pair approximatley one inch apart. The motif on the face of the hateplate is painted in yellow and red. It consists of an yellow eagle surrounded by thirteen yellow, six-pointed stars with red centers. In the center of the eagle is a shield, with what appears to be the coat of arms of Connecticut. On either side of the eagle are yellow, rectangular cartouches edged in red. One cartouche has "7 Co", and the other cartouche has "12 R", indicating the 7th Company of the 12th Regiment. The hatplate is edged in yellow.
