DescriptionWatercolor, done by an unidentified maker, probably a woman, with a cut out printed map of Connecticut pasted in the center. Some watercolor appears to have been applied to the map. The top 1/3 of the drawing is colored blue background, with a scroll banner across the top. The banner reads: "From the Rising of the Sun even unto the Going down of the Same MY NAME shall be Great among the Gentiles."

Below the center top is a gold-colored cross with light emanating from it. Below this is an open book saying on one page "IHS" and on the other, "The Order for / Daily / Morning / and / Evening / Prayer." This page is resting on a closed Bible with a red cover. There is greenery around this and a chalice and candlestick to the right, and keys and what appear to be medals to the left.

The bottom two-thirds of the rawing is centered around the map of the diocese of Connecticut, which is pasted onto the painting so as to look like it is on an unfolded scroll. On the left side of the scroll are the words "Blessed are ye that sow beside all Waters." The heading of the map is "DIOCESE OF CONNECTICUT." The map itself shows the counties of Connecticut, and in them circles and cross representing churches and chapels, and parishes or missions where no church was yet erected.

On each side of the map is a brown stick or trunk encircled with leaves and a banner with writing. On the left side banner are the words, "Be Thou faithful unto Death / and I will give Thee a Crown of Life... Whatsoever / ye shall bind / on Earth shall be / bound in Heaven / and Whatsoever / Ye shall loose on Earth / shall be lossed in Heaven." On the right, the banner reads, "Go Ye into all the World / and preach the Gospel / to every Creature, / and Lo! / I am with You alway / even unto the End / of the World. AMEN"

On a brown background below the map are the words, "ONE LORD. ONE FAITH. ONE CAPTISM." Holding this up are two brown poles with banners around them with words in Latin. Between them is a coat of arms.

The Latin of the left post is, "Quod / semper. / Quod unique." On the right, the Latin reads, "Quod / ab / Omnibus." The coat of arms is a shield with a red background surrounded with a blue feathered mantle, topped with a crown like that of a bishop. In the shield is a cross, under which are a crossed key and staff.
