DescriptionA full-length portrait of a woman seated on a stool, facing to the right. She wears a dress with a V-shaped waistline, two rows of ruching on the sleeves, cuffs trimmed with lace, and a wide collar or bertha. A rose is pinned at her breast. She holds a book in her left hand and flowers in her right hand. She has a ring on the forefinger of her right hand. The stool on which she sits is in the Empire style. It has console legs and is trimmed with fringe. Drapery tied back with cords and a tassel is at left and right. A stone parapet and the base of a column are immediately behind. Two oversized roses, with leaves and a bud, are at the right. Trees, including what appears to be a cypress tree, are in the background.
